Tips For Saving Money on a Trip

Traveling can be very expensive, especially after you consider the cost of meals, transportation, lodging and entertainment. There are a few easy steps that you might want to take to ensure that you are saving money in areas that are easily turned into low budget expenditures. No matter where you are going, there are places that are going to be more cost efficient than others, and that is something that just about everyone can appreciate.

When deciding where to book your stay, you may want to check out some of the less common places. There are hostels available in most major cities, and they are great for cheap lodging. Most hostels offer a dorm style bed, a place to store belongings, a kitchen, a common room and a free continental breakfast. There are some hostels that can be booked for as low as $12 per night for a single bed, or $22 per night for a semi-private room.

Cheap hotels can be found everywhere. There are several sites that offer a “choose your price” option. They offer this option because a hotel does not make money on vacant rooms. If a room does not have an occupant, the hotel is losing money, and the owners or shareholders do not like losing money. Once I saw the hotel owner playing Clash Royale in a bid to connect with a bunch of gamers to get them to stay the night after a gaming convention! That was interesting.

Dining on a budget is not as hard as one would think. There are many places that offer a free entrée with a two drink purchase, or they offer for children to eat free with the purchase of an entrée. Some places even have promotional days that a certain meal or drink is free for everyone. Taking the time to research the area is important if your goal is to travel on a low budget. There are also sites that offer gift certificates or gift vouchers of up to $25 for as low as $4 if you purchase them online.

It is not hard to find something to do for free in most cities. If you look up the entertainment venues, you will usually find that most major cities offer free concerts in parks during certain months. Farmers markets are great places to go if you want to get a feel of the local culture, and they are generally free of charge. Tours through cities and/or city areas are a great way to find out the history of a place, and you usually do not have to pay for them. If you are looking for comedy clubs, there are several that have a free night or a free show during certain times. There is even a theatre in Boston that offers free live performances one day a week. The discounts that you can find on local entertainment are enormous.

In City Travel

A great way to get about the city is either on foot or using the local transportation system. While renting a car may be a little more convenient than taking a bus, the bus service may offer a single rate for a seven day pass. There are some places that offer seven day passes for bus and metro for a low cost of $20. If you purchase a map and carry the bus schedule, you should be able to go wherever you need in a timely manner.

If you are looking for a simpler mode of transportation, there are some streetcar services that offer a one-way trip for as little as $1.25 per person, as long as the destination is along the car’s regular route. Streetcars are great because there are usually several cars running the same routes throughout the day. This mean that you will be able to get to and from your hotel for as little as $2.50, and if you are dropped off and picked up in a place that is centrally located among several attractions, you have a whole day’s outing for an extremely low price.

Traveling on a budget it not hard to do if you do not mind doing some things in an unconventional way, and you need to be willing to do some research ahead of time. When booking your stays, you want to make sure that you are getting the best prices possible. Do some research and know what the area has to offer, and make sure that you are fully prepared for any curveballs that may be thrown your way.
